Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods

Autumn 2006 arrived a few days early in Colorado Springs. The few days preceeding the equinox were chilly and wet. The view west from Cheyenne Mountain to Pikes Peak to the Rampart Range was obscured by a low bank of clouds. This time of year, everyone knows those clouds are to the mountains like a curtain is to a painter's canvas. Hidden behind the shroud, mother nature was hard at work placing the first layers of white over the reddish-brown face of Pikes Peak. In the quiet hours of September 23, the clouds finally lifted and the skies cleared. Colorado Springs was treated to the season's first coat of snow on the mountains rising to our western horizon.
